أكّد رئيس الجمهورية جوزاف عون لقائد قوة الأمم المتحدة المؤقتة في لبنان “اليونيفيل”، اللواء ديو داتو أبانيارا، تمسّك لبنان ببقاء القوات الدولية في الجنوب اللبناني طوال المدة اللازمة لتنفيذ القرار 1701، واستكمال انتشار الجيش اللبناني حتى الحدود الدولية.
وخلال اللقاء، شدّد الرئيس عون على أهمية التعاون بين الجيش اللبناني، اليونيفيل، وأهالي البلدات والقرى الجنوبية، معتبرًا أن هذا التعاون يشكّل ركيزة أساسية لترسيخ الاستقرار والأمن في المنطقة.
ويأتي هذا الموقف في وقت تشهد فيه مناقشات محتدمة في مجلس الأمن الدولي حول مشروع قرار قدمته فرنسا لتمديد ولاية اليونيفيل لعام إضافي حتى 31 آب 2026، تمهيدًا لانسحاب تدريجي للقوات، لتصبح الحكومة اللبنانية الضامن الوحيد للأمن في الجنوب.
إلا أن المداولات تواجه تحفظات واضحة من الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل، فيما لم تحسم واشنطن، صاحبة الفيتو، موقفها النهائي بعد. ومن المتوقع أن يُطرح مشروع القرار للتصويت في 25 آب الجاري، قبل أيام من انتهاء الولاية الحالية للقوة.
وتعكس هذه التطورات حرص لبنان الرسمي على الاستقرار الأمني في الجنوب، خصوصًا في ظلّ تصعيد ميداني متواصل على الحدود، ما يجعل تمديد اليونيفيل عنصراً أساسياً لضمان الالتزام بالقرار 1701.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun reaffirmed to UNIFIL Commander Major General Dato’ Abaniara Lebanon’s commitment to maintaining the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in the southern region for the full duration necessary to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, ensuring the Lebanese Army completes its deployment up to the international borders.
During the meeting, President Aoun emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Lebanese Army, UNIFIL, and local communities, calling it a cornerstone for maintaining stability and security in the region.
This statement comes amid heated debates at the UN Security Council, where France has proposed a resolution to extend UNIFIL’s mandate for an additional year until August 31, 2026, as a prelude to a gradual withdrawal, leaving the Lebanese government as the sole guarantor of security in the South.
However, the deliberations face clear reservations from the United States and Israel, while Washington, holding the veto power, has yet to finalize its position. The resolution is expected to be voted on August 25, just days before the current mandate expires.
