UN Entity: UNRCO, Bahrain
Assignment Context:
The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Bahrain became a separate entity in 2018 with the delink from UNDP as part of the UN development system reforms. The Office coordinates a UN Country Team of 20 UN agencies across the government, with the Ministry RCO is providing policy and strategic support to the government to SDGs.
The purpose of this assignment is to support the RCO Bahrain in enhancing its coordination role through data collection and reporting of the cooperation framework and SDGs-related, developments and findings; promoting the work of UNCT at the national level; and contributing to communications activities on delivering the UNCT cooperation framework in support of the national development plan.

Under the supervision of the Head of RCO, the UNV Data and Reporting Specialist will:
• Track all developments in the Arab States region related to socio-economic trends, events and developments, especially related to war-effected countries.
• Collect, extract and compile basic information and technical data on socio-economic affairs in Bahrain and the region;
• Maintain and update database(s), or initiate new database(s) when required, in relation to socio-economic affairs for all indicators with special attention to closures and access matters.
• In collaboration with the Economist and Head of RCO, work to streamline and improve the socio-economic researching and reporting, including information updates on UNInfo;
• Provide daily updates on access/closure developments and other urgent socio-economic matters in relation to crisis situations;
• Support research assignments for RCO Bahrain and (R)DCO as required;
• Provide data related information and reports to other UN agencies within the UNCT(s);
• Prepare fact sheets and brief information packages for use of RC office, UNCT and (R)DCO;
• Assist with archiving and managing the office library and/or online data management system;
• Provide data for RCO reports as required (including on SDG, ECOSOC, UNCT related reports); and perform any other duties as assigned.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Required experience:
10 years of experience in data collection, entry and analysis; affinity with research and reporting; knowledge of socio-economic and access issues in the Arab States region; good knowledge of computer applications, as relevant to the post.
– Proven skills in data collection, entry, and analysis.
– Ability to produce engaging communication materials in English and Arabic.
– Proven skills in database maintenance and management.
– Excellent interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to conceptualize ideas and pro-mote consensus.
– Ability to work under pressure while producing results.
– Knowledge or sound understanding of key socioeconomic indicators relevant to the Arab States.
– Tact, discretion and diplomacy.
Desirable experience: Knowledge of the UN system including the UN Resident Coordinator’s Offices.
