The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, dedicated to improving lives in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), is searching for a strategic and highly experienced Biodiversity and Natural Capital Specialist to join its Climate Change and Sustainability (CSD) Sector in Washington DC.
This key international staff position requires leading the integration of natural capital and biodiversity mainstreaming across the Bank's massive development portfolio. The successful candidate will report to the Chief of the Biodiversity and Natural Capital Unit.
Strategic Role & Key Deliverables:
The Specialist will play a pivotal role in shifting development paradigms in borrowing member countries. Core responsibilities include:

Operation Leadership: Leading the design, implementation, and supervision of development operations specifically focused on natural capital and biodiversity, utilizing IDB Group financing mechanisms (IDB Invest and IDB Lab).

Technical Expertise: Providing specialized technical advice on nature-based solutions (NBS), environmental finance, and the integration of biodiversity into national policies, infrastructure, and investment frameworks.

Policy Dialogue: Participating in high-level sector dialogues with LAC member countries regarding their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and associated financing plans.

Applied Research: Contributing to applied research on environmental governance and nature finance to enhance Bank knowledge.

Cross-Sector Collaboration: Collaborating extensively with IDB divisions focused on infrastructure and finance to mainstream the Natural Capital and Biodiversity Action Plan.
Qualifications and Expertise Requirements:

Education: Advanced Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in disciplines relevant to Biodiversity, Natural Capital, and international development.

Experience (Minimum): A minimum of 4 years of proven experience directly related to Biodiversity and Natural Capital.

Highly Valued Experience:
-
Implementing Nature-Based Solutions in infrastructure projects.

Cross-sectoral work with Ministries of Finance on natural capital mainstreaming.

A working understanding of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).

Language Proficiency: Proficiency in Spanish and English (spoken and written) is mandatory. Knowledge of Portuguese is preferred.

Citizenship: Must be a citizen of one of the 48 IDB member countries.
Compensation and Benefits:
The IDB offers a competitive international staff contract (36 months initially), a comprehensive benefits package, including a net-of-tax annual base salary, generous paid time off, and support for relocation and visa applications.
